Kickoff Meeting/Workout
Saturday August 27th at 8am in Sudbury (31 Union Ave)
One big workout with all the gyms followed by our nutrition challenge meeting!
There will be no classes in Waltham or Southborough this day.

Monthly Check-Ins
We will be holding two monthly check-ins during this challenge where we will gather at one of our community gyms (just like the kickoff meeting) to workout together and have a nutrition chat/check-in!
There will be no classes at the other community gyms on these days.

Saturday, October 8th @ 8am in Southborough (12 Southville Road)
Saturday, November 12th @ 8am in Waltham (40 Jones Road)

Zero Ingredients
Exactly how it sounds! Fill your plate with food that does not have any extra ingredients added to it.
Check out some food examples below..

One Plate / 3-5 Meals per Day
Aim for one plate per meal. No seconds! Try to fill your plate with protein, carbs, fats, and vegetables in every meal. Chat with a coach for additional help!

 

TILT 2022 Summer Step-Up Challenge

Hey everyone!

The 2022 Summer Step-up challenge is here! The rules are simple:

Accumulate 10,000 step-ups between May 1 and August 31.

Choose the height and weight — these do not have to stay the
same throughout the entire challenge!
Example: Step-ups to a 16 in. box holding 15 lb dumbbells in each hand

3rd Annual Affiliate Cup!

3rd Annual TILT Affiliate Cup!

When: February 25th – March 11th
*Workouts will be held on Friday Feb 25, March 4th, and March 11th during all classes and during Friday Night Lights at 5:30pm
What: Fitness, Fun, and Friendly Competition! See below for all details.
How to Sign-up: Sign-up at the front desk!
Sign-up deadline is Tuesday, February 8th.
Cost: $20 and will receive your Team Color Tee or Tank!
*Your TRIIB account will be charged

How the Affiliate Cup Works:

  • The Affiliate Cup is a fun new way to participate in the CrossFit Open! We would love to have everyone join in on the fun. Please include your t-shirt size on the sign-up sheet. You do not need to register for the Open to participate.
  • Once registered, we will place you on a team with TILT members and a coach. Each team will be designated by a specific color (blue or red). Teams will receive their team shirt/color before February 25th.
  • Over a three-week period, CrossFit HQ will release three classic and accessible workouts that can be performed by participants of any ability level. There will be modification options for all workouts (just like your TILT coaches provide already!). Each week, on Thursday night, the weekly workout will be announced. The first workout will be announced on Thursday, February 24th.
  • On Friday, during all classes, participants will have a chance to throw down on the Open workout during all classes. This will be the first opportunity to receive points for your team! In addition, every Friday at 5:30pm we will be holding “Friday Night Lights” – an opportunity to receive more points, hangout, workout, and socialize with other TILT members.
  • Team members will also have the opportunity to earn additional points for their team. See below.

You earn 1 Point for:

  • Doing the Open Workout in class on Friday (**2 points for doing the workout at Friday Night Lights**)
  • -Judging (or cheering!) someone in class on Friday
  • -Wearing your team color in class on Friday
  • -Posting a post workout selfie on your gym’s private Facebook group.

*Max points per week = 5 points

Teams will track their points at the gym on the Affiliate Cup Whiteboard

The Winner:
At the end of the 3 weeks, we will tally and average out all the points for each team.
The winning team will receive bragging rights and the Affiliate Cup Trophy!

Salsa Night at TILT Waltham – Friday February 11th, 7pm

Join us (and bring a date if you like) for a night of dancing and fun at CrossFit TILT Waltham!

Our own Marissa Monteiro will be leading us through a group Salsa lesson, followed by dancing and socialization to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Sign up sheet is available at the front desk of your gym for you and a plus one.

The event starts at 7pm after the conclusion of the 5:30pm class on Friday, February 11th and runs until 9pm. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided. Feel free to show up in your gym clothes, or put on something a little fancier! The first hour of the event will be a structured “Salsa WOD” where Marissa teaches us some Salsa dance steps in the format of a typical CrossFit class. The second half will be a chance to interact with members from other gyms and normal classes, as well as to test drive your new moves out on the dance floor! You do not need to bring a date, as everyone will be paired off for dance partners at the beginning anyway. We hope to see you there!

This workshop will be covering the best ways to help bullet-proof and strengthen your lower back. We will work on different components of the deadlift, variations of the deadlift, accessories to the deadlift and some considerations for how to handle lower back discomfort!

Congratulations to John Pellegrino, our December Member of the Month!

Congratulations to John Pellegrino, our December Member of the Month. John is a mainstay in the evening classes at TILT Waltham and is consistently looking to improve his game and get fitter. You can always find John working on skills and drills before class, and nobody gives a harder push at the end of a workout. John took the time to answer some of our questions about his CrossFit experience, and we’ve shared his answers below. It’s been a pleasure getting to work with John and I’m extraordinarily honored that he’s our Member of the Month for December 2021! – Bud

1) When did you start doing CrossFit, and what made you decide to start?

I started CrossFit in May of 2019 and I did so because I was looking to lose weight and become overall more healthy.

2) You’re very consistent about coming to the 4:30 pm class every day. Was there something about that class that you gravitated to, or was it just the time that worked best for your schedule?

I’m not the greatest at waking up early so I favor the evening classes. I prefer the 4:30 pm class as, if I miss it, I can always take the 5:30 or 6:30 pm ones.

3) You’ve put a lot of work in getting better at strict pull-ups and rope climbs. What advice would you give to people looking to improve at those movements?

The advice I would give would be to start wherever you can and try to improve from there.

4) As a musician, what are your top 3 favorite songs to work out to? Are there any songs or types of music that you don’t like to work out to?

I usually listen to Metal or Rock and listen to songs like “Hell on Earth” (Iron Maiden), “Stratego” (Iron Maiden), and “War Ensemble” (Slayer). I don’t have any songs or types of music I dislike working out to.

5) When was the last time you cut your hair, and what made you decide to start growing it out?

The last time I had my hair cut was around 2014. I decided to start growing it out when I got more into Metal music.

6) Other than CrossFit, what’s the hobby or pastime that you spend the most time doing?

I spend a lot of time playing video games in my free time.

7) What’s your favorite movement in CrossFit?

My favorite movement would probably be the rope climb. I went from not being able to climb a rope to climbing one in about 2-3 weeks by coming in 20 minutes before each class and practicing.

8) If you could ban one CrossFit movement, which movement would you ban?

I would ban wall balls.

9) What’s your favorite CrossFit workout?

My favorite CrossFit workout was one involving the bike and a rope climb a few months back.

10) If someone in your life wanted to start CrossFit, but they were unsure or hesitant, what advice would you give them?

My advice would be to just try it out and go from there.

FAQ: 

Is this event kid-friendly? – Yes! Feel free to bring kids and encourage them to wear costumes as well.

Is there a beer mile? – Absolutely! You can bring your own beers or use the ones that we provide. You also have the option of doing a seltzer mile.

Should I bring anything? – Yes! We will be holding a trunk or treat during the event, so please bring favors for the kids. You can also bring beverages to enjoy after the workout, although drinks and snacks will be provided as well.

What if I can only make it for the workout at the beginning or can’t make it till later? – Come on down! This is a fun community event, whether you can only make it for some of it or can attend the entire thing, we would love to have you!
